RACE TRACK EVENTS

TO-DAY’S AUCKLAND HELDS. FINAL DAY’S ACCEPTANCES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Juno 6. The following acceptances have been Received for to-morrow; —

PUBLIC EXPECT STABILISATION. FORM HAS BEEN TOO UNRELIABLE (By “Moturoa.”) The Great Northern meeting is generally regarded as a hard meeting for ■ the public, but surely never before have the public fancies received a rout so complete. Big dividends —save for New Boy -—have.not been a feature o2 the gathering, but form has warranted odds-on favouritism on several occasions at the meeting, and form has played the bettors false. Again the big treble proved beyond the general idea of the public—but that was not surprising. However, with- two days* running to shed some light on the prospects for the final day, the public wilt hope for better treatment. The first race to-day will start at 11.30, and will be the Tamaki Steeplechase. The form shown by MASTER LU at the meeting’ has been good, and he should account for Lucess at the weights. St. Warrigal may supply .the surprise packet. Orakei Hurdles. Luminary won well on Thursday, but as- the maiden hurdler jCARLARIS beatMister Gamp, the Carl Rosa gelding should find a bigger following than the topweight. York Handicap. As several candidates in this race claim engagements later in the day, bettors on the course will know, more about matters. Havering, if started would have a great chance to make amends, but Seatown, w'ho won last year, has come back to form again, and must be considered more than a possibility. Then there is True Blood, who won the Cornwall. Lucy Rose is very well, and Standfast and High Pitch must be considered. Pompeius should hold the rest safe. Most punters will fight shy of this race, though HIGH PITCH, Seatown and Pompeius must make appeal. k Winter Steeplechase. The Great Northern Steeplechase winner was Aurora Borealis. Early out of the struggle was Ponjola, but the public will not lose sight of Taunaha’s good son so early, and I for one will be prepared to see him do better. The shorter distance will favour Matu, who has not yet reached top form, and Odin is easily the best of the remainder. However, if the public drop PONJOLA they have Aurora Borealis for the form candidate. Campbell Hurdles. Beaten the first day, beaten the second day—Mister Gamp. But who will deny that the Australian-bred lepper represents the best hurdle form in the Dominion? Taumai is good if he keeps sound, and then Daylight jumps well; but the bulk of the punters will go for MISTER GAMP. Visitors’ Handicap. The more mud, the better for Nancy Lee. Havering would go better here than in the mile event, but PRINCE VAL ran very well at Taumarunui, and this is his.first appearance at the gathering. Lucy Rose is in earlier, and it looks a difficult proposition to decide* upon anything beyond Prince Vai save Havering and Nancy Lee. Carbine Plate. Nothing is more forward than Chromadyne. Goldlike is due for a win, and so is Sir Mond, but New Boy and Principal have been running well, and Te Hoia and Royal Visitor are not without their chance.- Of course, the amateur horsemen w’ill weigh the scale of public opinion, but it will need a ton of bad luck to keep CHROMADYNE, Goldlike and Te Hoia from taking a hand in the finish.
