INVESTIGATION IN TIMARU. By Telegraph-—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night Because of rumours that drinking by women in hotels was prevalent in Timaril, the licensing committee requested the police to make investigations, and at the annual meeting of the committee to-day Inspector A. S. Bird stated that the practice did not exist in Timaru. The inspector added that during the year only two women had been convicted of drunkenness, neither being residents of Timaru. ■ Visits to hotels by the police disclosed no evidence that drinking by women on licensed promises was being carried on.
