Mr. S. E. Burgess, New Plymouth, left yesterday for Auckland on the first stage of a trip to the Islands. „ The appointment of M r - U. Main to be Crown Solicitor at Oamaru, vice Mr. A. G. Creagh (resigned is gazetted, states a Press Association telegram from Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Barry, New South Wales, Mr. W. E. Roberts, London, the Rev. and Mrs. C. M. Newton, T<? Awamutu, were guests at the Criterion, New Plymouth, last night.

Mr. W. J. Potter, Auckland, organiser of; the Taranaki Rugby Union art union, is visiting New Plymouth. He leaves for Wellington by to-night’s express.
