CONTROL OF RUGBY

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS. BRITISH MATCH ARRANGEMENTS. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union was held after the match yesterday, when there were present Messrs. J. McLeod (chairman), R. Masters, J. Goodwin, J. Paterson, C. L. Mullaney, E. H. Young, G. H. Percy, J. 8. Hickey, A. H. Guy, ,G. Rutherford, J. Garcia, W. A. Guy and S. E. Nielsen (hon. secretary). The chairman reported that arrangements in connection with the visit of the British team were well in hand. He would visit Wanganui on Saturday to finalise matters. "If the visitors arrived by the midday train on Thursday it was proposed to give them a run into the country, visiting a dairy factory, and also a pedigree cattle farm. The North Taranaki Farmers’ Union would provide the cars. On Friday morning the visitors would practice, and in the afternoon would be taken to the oil wells and points of interest in New Plymouth. Saturday would be free, and on Sunday there would be a trip to the mountain. So far the evenings had been left free save for a few minutes at the civic reception and at the dinner on Saturday evening. There was a tug-of-war competition which would be available for them, whilst arrangements would be made for any groups who wished to go to any private function. They had been invited to a Savage club korero on Saturday evening. Mr. Masters was appointed to look after the British team arrangements on the day of the match. REPRESENTATIVE FIXTURES. The Manawhenna Rugby Union wrote confirming August 23 as the date for its match in Taranaki, and asked that if possible the game be played at Hawera. The Wanganui union notified that its A team would arrive in New Plymouth at *12.30 p.m. on June 3, and would return after the match. It had selected Mr. J.. S. King as referee. It confirmed June 28 as the date for the return matches, the A teams to play at Wanganui, and the B at Hawera. Wanganui referees submitted to control representative games were Messrs. W. H. Rowe, Leonard, A. Henwood, J. Richardson and R. P. London. Mr. Rutherford was appointed manager of the B team for the Wanganui trip, and Messrs. Moyes and W. A. Guy were appointed to attend to the Wanganui and Taranaki teams at New Plymouth on June 3. The Wellington union wrote confirming July 2 as the date for its game at Hawera, and September 27 as the date for the match at Wellington. Mr. J. McNamara, referee in the Okaiawa v. Kaponga junior match on Saturday, reported having ordered off Ashford (Okaiawa) and Litchwark (Okaiawa) for fighting and using obscene language. Consideration was deferred pending receipt of explanations fro?n. the players concerned. The Opunake club asked that the following third-grade teams be affiliated: Opunake, Rahotu, Pihama and Opunake High. School. Previously these teams were controlled by the Opunake Club. It was resolved to confirm the arrangement. STATUS OF GALBRAITH. The Old Boys club wrote inquiring as to the status of J. Galbraith, formerly of Inglewood, but now of New Plymouth. It pointed out that he left Inglewood on April 16 and resided in New Plymouth until April 30, when he left to take up a relieving position at Ohura. He returned on May 9. He had not played for any club in competition matches since he played for Inglewood in the Dewar Shield match on April 20. The chairman said the position of the player was perfectly clear. It was resolved to inform Old Boys that Galbraith was eligible to play. Reinstatements were granted as follow:—Senior to first junior, C. Julian (Okato); S. Chard (Clifton), Pukearuhe juniors; Jock Sangster (Stratford), Toko; L. Blair (Okaiawa). The Patea club was granted permission to hold a seven-a-side junior tournament on June 3. The Primary Schools’ Union asked that the North v. South representative match be played as’a curtain-raiser to the Wellington match at Hawera, and the application was granted. The Clifton club wrote drawing attention to the'fact that a referee had been sent from as far away as Toko to control a club game. Unless there were special circumstances the club took exception to being put to the additional expense. It was resolved to forward the letter to the Referees’ Association. The Taranaki Football Association was granted the use of the showgrounds, Hawera, for its annual match against Wanganui on June 3. The secretary of the Ngamotu Domain Board (Mr; E. O’Dea) wrote drawing attention to the fact that with an expenditure of. approximately £5OO a football ground practically equal to Pukekura Park could be formed in the domain, and in view of the fact that the union was running an art union to obtain grounds, his committee had requested him to put the matter before the union. It was resolved to matter to the New Plymouth members. The Alton club wrote drawing attention to the fact that Hawera played Beauchamp, an Athletic junior, against Alton on Saturday. The club was also of opinion that other Athletic•’ juniors were played. It asked for a replay or that the game be awarded Alton. Mr. Rutherford stated that this brought up the question of the transfer of Athletic and Hawera players. Mr. Goodwin was under the impression ■that the transfer had been arranged. * Consideration was deferred. It was resolved to telegraph the general manager of railways pointing < out that it was the unanimous opinion of the union that a special train at day excursion rates should be run from New Plymouth for the British football match.
