WESTOWN PUBLIC HALL.
FINE SUBURBAN INSTITUTION.
Probably,-nothing has done more to preserve a community of interest in Westown than the public hall. About 30 years ago a small hall was built in a section owned by Mr. E. Marfell, situated in Omata Road, about a few chains from the main road. ’ This building with two small additions sufficed for 25 years, but owing to the rapid growth of this district during the last ten years,, alterations had to be made.
. Five yearn ago. the Westown Hall Society was formed, and . debentures were taken up locally to buy an adjoining section for the purpose of erecting a new building. The old hall was removed on to the back of the new ' section bought from Mr. Marfell, senior, and a large new building, 40ft x 60ft, was erected in front, this building being very up to date, with dressing rooms, ■picture box, etc. - The new building used with the old building is a great asset to the district and together they ■ are said. to comprise the finest isuburi ban hall in Taranaki. An extended tram service .would be of great value to this building, as it is only one minute’s walk from the proposed tram stop.
