ROAD TRAFFIC CONTROL
ELIMINATING ACCIDENTS
MINISTER CALLS CONFERENCE.
VARIOUS INTERESTS CONCERNED

, The composition was announced today by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, of the conference he proposes to call with a view to discussing means of reducing the number of accidents due to the heavy increase in motor traffic. Those invited to be present are one representative each of the Health -Department, the Police Department, the Education Department, the Department of Census and Statistics and the State' Accident Insurance ' Department,- one town cle-rk representing the borough councils of the Dominion, one county council clerk representing the county councils, a representative of the North Island Motor , Union, a representative of the South Island Motoi .Union, a representative of the .insurance •‘pool” formed to undertake third party insurance risks, and representatives of the Transport Department. - Mr. Veitch said: “I am convinced that a great many accidents can be eliminated without -any unreasonable interference with road traffic. That being so, before taking action I feel I should get the advice of representatives of all the parties concerned. I hope I shall have' their co-operation. I am particularly anxious to fulfil the functions of Transport Minister by ensuring the safety and efficiency of. road traffic witli as little interference as possible. “I am quite confident that with the co-operation of those whom I am consulting in a representative capacity I shall succeed in bringing about a com-, prehcosivc improvement in road traihe conditions.”
