LIVERPOOL FACTORY WRECK
FIVE KILLED; HUNDRED HURT
FLAMES ENWRAP BUILDING

Five were killed, 40 seriously injuied and 60 others injured by an explosion at a Liverpool factory, believed to have been caused by, internal combustion. The fire trapped the employees on the top .floors, which were enveloped in a sheet of flame. One of the Injured had his clothes completely blown off and his skin blackened. Another, badly bunted, appeared on the roof with no clothes, waving his arms. Being terror-stricken be was about to jump over ICO feet to the pavement when he was rescued. Others were dug out of the ruins oi the three. top floors. Two explosions occurred within a few seconds, accompanied by thunderous crashes, flames of blinding yellow and smoke. The explosions threw down the majority of the workers, including women, and blew the roof across the street. Fumes choked and blinded the injured as they struggled from the building. The approaches to the factory were speedily thronged with weeping women and children rushing up to gel news of relatives, necessitating mounted police control of the crowd.
