REWARD FOR BRAVERY
HUMANE SOCIETY’S AWARDS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The Royal Humane Society’s gold medal has been awarded to Miss Eila Munro, Devonport, Auckland, who on February 23 at Muriwai Beach, North Auckland, rescued three persons from drownin". Three bathers were in difficulties °off the beach owing to the undertow. Miss Munro brought all ashore one by one. !ie was a^most exhausted after the second rescue but, undaunted, swam out again and brought in an unconscious man. “This is a case of outstanding merit and worthy of the highest award we can aive,” said the chairman, Mr. C. Morris, at the meeting to-day of the court of directors of the Royal Humane Society. Other award.? were: Bronze medal to Thomas Richard?, aged 29, for rcecuino- John W. Mulligan from a scrub fire “though Mulligan died later from burns; a certificate to Frank Charles Little,’ aged 20, who tried unsuccessfully to rescue a man from the surf in Tokomaru Bay; letters of commendation to Leslie P. Fox. Miramar, WelHn"ton, and Mrs. Dorie J. Harris, Devonport, Auckland, for rescues from drowning ; I r ’’ ' ''■ '<
