More library books were required. : COLLECTION FOR THE PIPE BAND. LAST YEAR’S AMOUNT EXCEEDED. Permitted by -the Borough Council to have one street collection day. a year, the Stratford Pipe Band selected Saturday night for the collection this yeai. Tlie band paraded in uniform and marched along the main street playing selections. Accompanying the band was a lorry, the platform of which served as a floor for four dancers. The collection realised .£5 12s, over £1 more than last year. The amount was not as large as expected. The collection is one of the very few of the band s sources of. income. The band is endeavouring to fit all its members with complete uniforms but is handicapped by lack of funds. The uniforms and instruments are very costly and in an attempt to raise funds the band will probably conduct dances during the winter.
