WAITARA NEWS

FIRE BRIGADE WEDDING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Something out of the ordinary in ' weddings as. far as Waitara is concerned took place at the Presbyterian, church on Thursday afternoon. The parties were Miss L. Perger and Mr. -W. Terrill, both of Waitara. Mr. Terrill being a, member of the- fire brigade, it was virtually a fireman’s, wedding. The; bridegroom was taken to the church bn the motor reel with all the appliances,as well as the men, all spick and span. On the couple leaving the church the brigadesmen formed an archway with axes, under which Mr. and Mrs. Terrill passed in a shower of confetti. The brigadesmen afterwards boarded the motor and escorted the bridal party to Belle Vue, where the wedding breakfast was held. ROWING CLUB’S DANCE. ' The Clifton Rowing Club's masquerade dance on Thursday night was an outstanding success, and the financial result should help considerably towards the purchase of two new boats. The hall was tastefully decorated, and the daricers were splendidly catered for by Boulton’s dance band. The Mayor and Mayoress had th® task of judging the fancy dresses. The'awards were: Mrs. Phillips (Topsy), 1; Miss Trask (Eastern Lady), 2; Mr. Phillips (Sheik), 1;. Mr. Wells (Indian), 2. A special prize donated by the -Mayoress was awarded Mesdames Cramer and Munro (Darby and Joan).
