CARE OF NGAMOTU DOMAIN
PROPOSAL FOR FOOTBALL GROUND.
ANNUAL MEETING OF.THE BOARD.
The annual meeting of the Ngamotu Domain Board was held last night. Present: Messrs. R. Glengarry, F. W. Sutton, W. Honey field, L. McConnell, E. O’Dea, R. Cameron and J. Bartholomew.
Reviewing the whole year, said Mr. Glengarry, the few who had taken an interest in the park -could congratulate themselves on what had been done. He regretted that the borough council, although it knew the domain board’s rents had fallen considerably, had not seen its way' to increase the board’s allotment. He lived in hopes of seeing a more active interest being taken in the park during the coming year, j
The balance-sheet showed a credit of £9 Bs. lid. Receipts amounted to £57 6s. 7d., including rents £34 14s. Expenditure ' amounted to £47 17s. Bd., the chief items being wages £24 Gs. and fences £lB 4s. sd. Officers were elected as follow:— Chairman, Mr. R. Glengarry; secretary, Mr. E. O’Dea; executive committee, Messrs. F. W. Sutton, W. Honeyfield, L. McConnell and J. Bartholomew.
The question of laying out a croquet green and a football ground on the domain grounds was raised by Mr. Honeyfield. The borough had promised to take the levels, but so far had not done so.
Mr. Bartholomew suggested that the Taranaki Rugby Union be approached with a view to laying out the ground with its art union funds.
Mr. Cameron suggested that the Motorcycle Union would probably put the ground in order if permission was given to lay a three-quarter mile track round the ground.
Mr. McConnell said that if the Rugby Union laid out the ground it would be taken out of the hands of the domain board.
The chairman: As it stands at present the ground is no use to anybody. The borough should have taken, the levels, said Mr. Sutton, but the engineer said he had been too busy with°the sewerage scheme. The board decided to write to the Rugby Union on the matter. If they.had £3OO or £4OO, said Mr. Honeyfield, they could go on with schemes for laying out a football ground anti croquet green. As it was, they had no funds. . All the people of t-he district from Omata and the Breakwater should support the board, and then, with working bees, the domain could be laid out properly with ponds and shrubs.
The borough council had not yet lowered tlie level of the main gates at the entrance to the domain, said the chairman. It was decided to write to the council asking it to fulfil its promise to lower the level of the gates before tlie winter set in, and to take the levels for the tennis courts. The gates were two feet too high, said the chairman, and the council had promised to lower them and take the cost off the subsidy it allowed the board. The borough council notified that the' Domain Board had been voted its usual annual subsidy of £2O. Mr. Sutton gave notice of motion for the next meeting that in future the secretary’s salary be £6 per annum, to be paid in quarterly instalments of £1 10s.
An honorarium of one guinea was voted to the secretary, and one guinea was voted the hall.
It was decided that meetings be held either just before or after the meetings of the Moturoa Ratepayers’ Association.
