CRICKET TOUR OPENED

AUSTRALIA. V. WORCESTER

Wfm AT THE WICKETS

TWO BATSMEN GO CHEAPLY

By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.

Roe. 12.44 a.m. London, April 30. For the first match of the Australians’ cricket tour the wicket at Worcester was soft. Bright sunshine and a crisp atmosphere gave the Australians a cheery welcome to the picturesque tree-lined ground, which was in good order but slow. A stiff breeze blew across the wicket.

Jewell, the Worcester captain, won the toss and Woodfull led out the Australians punctually at noon to face a battery of newspapermen and cinema cameras. Jewell scored three from Wall’s first over. A’Beckett was at the other end. He bowled more 'slowly than usual. The wicket was true and the balls did not rise high. The batsmen appeared to be comfortable against a’Beckett, who was pitching mostly outside the off stump. Wall also did not cause anxiety. The scores are: — WORCESTER. Wright, 1.b.w., b Grimmett . 8 Fox, 1.b.w., b Grimmett .......... fl The teams are:— w Australia. —Woodfull, Richardson, D. Bradman, Fairfax, Grimmett, Hornibrook, Jackson, McCabe,. Oldfield, Wall, a’Beckett.

Worcester. —Jewell, Wright, Nichol, V. Fox, Gibbons, Walters, Root, Brooke, Styler, Gilbert, Jackson.
