REMISSIONS TOTAL £190,000.

The work of the commission appointed by the Government to investigate cases of hardship arising out of the imposition of the super land tax is expected to be completed by the end of the current week. Given an enti.eiy free hand by the Government, the commission has now considered ai J Emily disposed of 555 cases and granted icmissions totalling approximately £lOO,000. In all cases its decisions hare been accepted by the Government. The commission consists of Mr, W; G. Riddell (chairman, former.y senior magistrate in Wellington) ano Messrs D. °G. Clark and A. E. Fowler, noth of whom have previously occupied the position of Commissioner of Taxes. Mi. Clark was the nominee of the Gvre. ament and Mr. Fowler represented the “farming community. ■ To-morrow the commission wui make a start with tiie drafting of its upurt, which in view of the nature of the order reference may be a more or less formal document.
