PARISHIONERS’ ANNUAL MEETING.
At the annual meeting of the St. John’s Church parishoriers at Waitara on Monday night Archdeacon Gavin presided. The balance-sheet showed that £llB 16s was brought forward at April 1, 1929, and that during the year £643 10s Gd had . been, received, of , which the envelope system in Waitara gave £247 19s 7d, cash offertories £34 7s 6d, subscriptions and donations £23 19s Gd, annual tea £l7 5s 3d, rose show £Q6 3s, Lepperton £37 17s 6d, Tikorangi ,£6a. Urenui £4B, Motonui £5. . -Various amounts were received on account of missions. An amount of £32 13s 6d came from St. John’s Hall receipts. The expenditure totalled £637 16s 5d arid-a credit balance of £157 3s 7d will be carried forward. ■- 4 The church warden’s report .iri congratulating the vicar on his appointment as archdeacon said that the new duties must necessarily have a material effect on the vicar’s parochial activities, and the position had been considered by the vestry, but. owing to the weak financial sate of the diocese no direct representation to the standing committee had yet been made. The wardens felt bound to point out, however, that under present conditions the ,vicar could not give the time he did to the parish, and the work of the church in consequence was bound to suffer. • Tlie present’' attendance of the (services was most unsatisfactory, aiid the wardens thought that was a matter also which must bo faced by the incoming vestry. The envelope system had proved most helpful since its inauguration. The annual rose show had a' satisfactory result and the thanks of the vestry were due to the energetic secretary ’ (Mr. J. W. Hamlin) and his committee - for the able ’ and ' efficient way in which the show was conducted. Repairs to the church building had been carried, out, but a considerable sum has yet to be expended in the near future on further repairs. In this connection the wardens desired to-place before the incoming vestry’ the necessity for augmenting regularly each year, if possible,; the rebuilding fund, which was commenced some years ago. The election of officers resulted:— People’s warden, Mr. J. 11. Red ward; vestry, Messrs. A. Chadwick, R. A. .Robinson, D. Jones, J. W. Hamlin, H. J. Wells and A, Pizzey ; auditor, Mr.. J. Hine. . ■ ' ; The- vicar announced the re-appoint-ment of Mr. C. R. Stead as his warden. It was decided to hold a scries bf socials and to make a feature of.each a short talk by a recognised authority on ,ari: interestitig. suUjeet. I:. . - At meeting, of the' vestry Mr, J. H.
