WINNING TICKET STOLEN
WHANGAREI RACES INCIDENT
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Whangarei, Last Night.
On the first day of the Whangarei races William Bain had two £5 tickets on Maori Boy, winner of the Mclnnes Handicap. He did not cash the tickets. The following day he was in company with William McMillan, Hikurangi, an old acquaintance. During the afternoon he missed the tickets and informed the police. On the second day of the races one of the tickets was presented at the late dividend window by a man who said McMillan had offered him £2 to cash it. McMillan to-day was charged with attempting to steal £l2 15s, the property of William Bam, and was fined £2. The magistrate commented strongly up on the action of McMillan in sending another man to cash the tickets instead ol doing, so himself, thus allowing an innocent person to be placed m the position of a wrongdoer.
