TRAM PASSENGER KILLED
FAILED TO LOOK FOR TRAFFIC.
MOTOR DRIVER EXONERATED.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Wellington, Last Night
“This accident shows the necessity which is always present in these days of more-and more motor traffic for people when leaving and walking around tramcars to take very great care to see if anything is approaching, This is a striking example of what will happen if they do not”
With these remarks the coroner, Mr. McNeil, S.M., concluded an inquest this morning into the death of James Gribben, victim of a motor fatality at Miramar on April 15. The coroner said the evidence clearly showed the fatality happened because Gribben when hx. came round the back of a .tram-car did not take the precaution of looking along the road to see if there was any approaching traffic.
'The car did not run over him in any. way, he simply walked the car,” said Mr McNeil. ‘‘l am satisfied the driver was going at a reasonable speed, which is shown by the fact that he could stop his car 'within 20 or 25 feet without any warning at all. There is nothing in the evidence to show that the driver was in any way negligent.”
