A euchre party and dance was held in the Uruti Hall on Saturday evening, and a very enjoyable evening - was spent. The proceeds wore in aid of the hall. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs. R. Radcliffe and Mr. E. A. Jones. Mr. W. L. Larsen had the misfortune to meet with an accident near Mr. F. Aubrey’s, at Tangitu. The car he was driving went over a bank and turned over three times, coming to rest in a creek right side up. Mr. Larsen was very fortunate in receiving only a “ducking?’ The ear needed the attention of two lorries. The car was slightly damaged, but was able to proceed under its own power. The Uruti Sports Club is making final arrangements for the ball which takes place on May 14. On May 2 the electric lights will be switched on to the hall and a euchre party and a long-night dance will be held to mark the occasion. All radio enthusiasts were disappointed on the evening of the Grime-Dono-van fight. There was a band of troublesome static. However, it is hoped that the onditions for the forthcoming event at Dunedin will be more favourable.

A number of people from the neighbouring districts paid their last respects to the late Mr. S. Southcott on Sunday, when the funeral took place at Tongaporutu. Mias R. Area, Vogeltown, who has been staying with Mrs. W. Oxenham, has returned.

Miss Salt, Wanganui, has been spending a holiday with Mrs. W. Oxenham. Mrs. Sparks, Hawera, has returned, after spending a. holiday with Mrs. J. Chapman, Tongaporutu, and Mrs. J. Bell, Uruti. Messrs. P. Norris, L. Smith and Miss L. Whittington, Opunake, spent their Easter vacation with Mr. and Airs. G. Scott.

Mrs. 11. Jones has been staying with Mrs. E. J. Jones during Easter. Mr. and Mrs. J. Qld and Miss E. Thompson have returned from a holiday spent at Waikato. Miss E. Thompson, whose place has .been taken during her holidays by Mrs. G. Fulton, has resumed her duties at the Uruti po&t oflice. Mr. and Mrs. G. Fulton spent their Easter holidays at Waitara.
