WAITOITOI-URENUI NEWS

SPORTS CLUB DANCE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The dance held in the Urenui Hall last Monday night was appreciated as a fitting finale to the Urenui Sports Club’s Easter meeting. By the large number present it appeared tnat those who were deterred from attending the ! sports by climatic conditions, which were unpropitious in the early jxart of the day, were determined to be present at the dance. The massed parking of cars in the vicinity of the hall was an indication of the hail's interior. Visitors were present from far and near, and in spite of the congestion couples danced happily to music dispensed by McNeill’s orchestra. The need for a larger hall in keeping with the district’s growing, population was again evidenced. The master of ceremonies was Mr. W. Scott and the catering was arranged by Mrs. F. E. Howell and staff.

At a meeting of officers of the Methodist Church on, Tuesday evening opportunity was taken to bid farewell to Missioner Bennett, who has had charge of the Uruti circuit for the past , two years and has been appointed to the Raeti'hi district. Smith, on behalf of Urenui mem bore, referred to the excellent work carried out in the district during Mr. Bennett’s term of office and wished him success in his new field of labour.

Mushrooms are slowly making their appearance. Although they are a few weeks later than usual there is every indication that this delectable fungoid will be again in good supply. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon George, who have taken up their residence in Waitoitoi after returning from their honeymoon in the north, were accorded a warm reception by the local tin-can brigade. The brigade was reinforced by members from other districts, and the customary toasts were honoured before the gathering dispersed. A plentiful supply of literature for the winter months is assured subscribers to the Urenui library by the additions of the latest fiction. The secretary, Miss E. Pigott, reports the following additions in April: —Can These Things Be (Cecilia Hill), The Romance of a Rogue . (Ruby M. Ayres), Peter (E. F. Benson), Lucia in London (E. Ft.
