MOTOR-CYCLIST KILLED

COLLISION WITH TRAMCAR. FATALITY ON SOUTH ROAD, Fatal injuries were received by' a Maori -motor-cyclist, Tamadno Tuteuruoho,.agcd 43, a farmer, of Okato, when his machine struck a tram car, while proceeding along .South Road- near Kingswell Street about 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tamaono was travelling towards the Breakwater when he struck a tramcar driven .by Motorman R. C. Alsop, which was proceeding towards town. The motor-cycle crashed into the righf-hand side of the tram and Tamaono was aj> parently struck a glancing blow and thrown head foremostxon to the edge of the tar-sealing and loose metal. His severe injuries indicated that he died instantly. The street at the scene of the fatality is wide and well-lighted, and it is difficult to account for the accident. The right-hand tram step was folded up, as is usual with town-bound trams. The carburettor of the motor-cycle was broken. Following the impact the machine rah on to the left side of the road and was not seriously damaged. Tamaono sustained head injuries and lacerations’ of the right leg and hand. The shoe on his right foot was torn off. He was conveyed to the hospital by ambulance and examined by Dr. Dempster, who found, he was dead. An inquest was opened before Mr. R. W. Tate, S.M., yesterday, and, after evidence of identification had been taken and Constable Fleming had described the extent of the injuries; it was ■ adjourned sine die.
