Mr. J. Hine, acting chairman of the Dairy Produce Board, was, a visitor to Rahotu yesterday. Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., attended the Rahotu sports meeting- yesterday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Wilkinson.

Colonel and Mrs. Turnbull, Wanganui, with their family, are visiting New Plymouth. They are staying at the White Hart.

Mr. J. McKenzie,.Masterton, New* Zealand Rugby player, who spent the Easter holidays in New Plymouth, returned home yesterday. Dr. Bruce Baird, superintendent of the Westland hospital for ten years, was given a public farewell last night on the occasion of his leaving for England to further his medical studies, says a message from Hokitika. Mr. A. Johns, general manager of the New Zealand Insurance Company, Ltd., and Mr. W. B. Colbeck, who have been taking part in the Taranaki Easter golf tournament, returned to Auckland yesterday.

Captain J. O. Berg, Parramatta, father of Mr. C. O. Berg, New Plymouth, is on - a visit to New Plymouth. Captain Berg traded in and out of New Ply* mouth and Waitara for many years. He. made his first trip to Waitara in 1881. Mr. C. P. Agar, Christchurch, chairman of the Tai Tapu Dairy Company, and Messrs. H. D. Peryman, G. Mangels and W. G. Macartney., directo-s of the company, are guests at the Criterion, Now Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. T.. E. Y. Seddon were publicly entertained last night on -the occasion of their leaving for Wellington to reside after Mr. Seddon having served as the-member for Westland for nearly 20 years, says a Hokitika message. On account of indifferent health, and after 30 years’ public service, Mr. T. P. Gilfedder has retired from the position of Registrar of Pensions at Wei? lington, an office which he has held since 1923. JMr. Gilfedder was born at Invercargill, reports the Press Association. He is a son of one of Southland’s early settlers, the late Peter Gilfedder, J.P ; > of One Tree Point, and brother of Judge Gilfedder, of the Native Land Court, and formerly M.P.Tor Wallace.

Brigadier-General Sir Gordon Guggesberg has died at Boxhill, aged .81, reports the British Official Wireless. Early this year his resignation as Governor and Commander-in-Chief of British Guiana was accepted on the ground of his, ill-health. He held a similar office in the Gold Coast from 1919 until 1927. When he retired from the Gold Coast 30,000 people lined the streets to bid' him good-bye, for under his Governorship the country had made wonderful progress.

At St. John’s bowling green, Wanganui, on Monday, Mr. A. W. Jones, president of the Wanganui Bowling Centre, made reference to the patronage given to Wanganui tournaments by clubs out-, side the city. Special reference -was made to the regular attendance of M r * T. Williams, of Fitzroy Club, New Ply-, mouth, Mr. Jones remarking that Mr, Williams for many years had attended every tournament held in Wanganui, and local players felt that they would like to show, their appreciation. . The speaker presented Mr. Williams with a case of pipes, expressing the wish that they would serve to remind the recipient of the pleasant games he had taken part in in Wanganui tournaments.
