BRITISH EXPERIMENTS. ■

London, April 7

If research into dental decay which the General Medical Council is carrying out is successful it is possible that theie will bo no dentists in the next centuiy. Working on WOO children in a ch? in of orphanages around Birmingham, Dr. Alan Deverall, from Johannesburg, for three years has been testing the theory of building up teeth from within by a daily diet of vitamin D, which has rich calcifying properties. The child) tn have a full course of ordinary diet, the only addition being vitamin 1). Children undergoing the diet showed 75 per cent, less teeth decay than children who were not dieting. Dr. Deverall said: "We have only begun. I shall bo satisfied if I can say definitely after 20 years that we are on the right lines. We are also conducting research into the reasons for the greater decay of boys’ teeth than girls’.

The whole basis of our theories is that teeth are best doctored by building up from the bp<jy. ; Incessant tinkering, yilji filling^,|. extractions,, crownings and other makeshift methods arc mere.painful no.li'afives and must go.”
