RIVERLEA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. W. Hey presided over a fair attendance at the annual meeting, of t>e Riverlea Hall Society on Tuesday. The balance-sheet showed a slight loss for the year but improvements to the supper room and the installation of electric heaters at a Cost of nearly £4O were responsible for the deficit.'.’ : The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. W. Hey; vice-president, Mr. J. Gibson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. M. F. Voullaire; auditor, Mr. McGregor; committee, all present, with’ powder to add. ■ •■■■ • ‘
To raise funds to put the society on a sound financial footing it was decided to approach the residents regarding the rearing of a calf by each resident to be sold at a later date for the benefit of the hail society, a substantial prize to. be given to the owner of the best calf reared; Further suggestions were to continue throughout the winter with, the euchre and ping-pong tournaments, commencing on the first Tuesday in May, and to°hold in June a modern and old-time dance, the committee to arrange a date later.
It was decided to hold a working bee at the hall in the near future to trim hedges and effect repairs to windows. At a meeting held last Wednesday the young ladies decided to form a Riverlea old girls’ basketball team and to raise funds to carry on it was decided to hold a euchre and dance in the Riverlea hall. Some of .the girls .are already practising and show by their play that they hnve not lost the art of throwing the" ball about.
