WHANGAMGMONA NEWS

■SUCCESS ON TENNIS COURTS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

In perfect weather a tennis match between Douglas and Whangamomona was played during the week-end. The men’s doubles provided the most interesting games. and some fine rallies were witnessed, Whitelaw and F. Anderson putting in some excellent shots for the local team. E. Walter, of Douglas, proved too good for F. Anderson in the men’s singles and played first-rate tennis. The ladies’ singles showed the teams evenly balanced and should be an inducement to the home players to preatise more consistently. Although Whangamomona won the match it was due to the weakness of the Douglas junior players rather than to the strength of Whangamomona’s senior players. The day was greatly enjoyed by all and at afternoon tea the visitors were thanked for their sportsmanship in making the trip and taking defeat smilingly. Results are: —
