REGISTRAR’S RETURNS.

The registrar, Mr. J. G. Mulholland, supplies the following vital statistics for Inglewood for the month of March and also the quarter, the figures for the corresponding periods in 1029 being given in parentheses: Births, for the month 10 (9), for the quarter 33 (16); deaths, for the month 3 (1), for the quarter 5 (2); marriages, for the month 3 (3), for the quarter 6 (11). PRESBYTERIAN INDUCTION. An event of great interest and importance to the Presbyterian community took place last evening, when by the induction of the Rev. R. Stuart-Keenan, Knox Church, Inglewood, was raised in

status from a home missionary station to a district in charge of a fully ordained minister. A fairly large congregation gathered at Knox church. The moderator, the Rev. J. D. McL. Wilson, of New Plymouth, read the charges, to which the new minister responded. A sermon was preached by the Rev. J. A. Ryburn, of Eltham, after which the Rev. J. H. Coombes, of Waitara, gave and address to the newly ordained minister, taking his text from the Epistle of Paul to Titus, “You must instruct people in what is sound doctrine.” Another address was given by the Rev. R. E, Evans, of Hawera.

Afterwards the congregation adjourned to the hall, which was crowded, and held a social evening, presided over by the moderator. Misses Nicholls and Mamby played a piano duct, songs were given by Messrs Kohn and Blyde and recitations by Mrs. McGowan.

Addresses of welcome to the newcomer were given by Messrs. Tate and Larsen, elders of the church, and by Mrs. Gibbs on behalf of the women. Welcomes were also extended on behalf of the Church of England' by the Rev. J. N. Thompson, on behalf of the Methodists by the Rev. A. Bennie and on behalf of. the Salvation Army by the captain. The moderator apologised for the absence of Mr. Charteris, who was unfortunately unable to be present, and asked Mr. Albert Charteris to accept a presentation of a cheque for his parents from Presbyterians and friends in Inglewood, who appreciated the work he had done during his stay in Ingkwood.. The Rev. R. Stuart-Keenan then thanked the people for their hearty welcome, expressing the hope that his stay in Inglewood would bear good fruit. Supper was handed round and the people present were able to meet their new minister and welcome him personally. Mr. and Mrs. and Miss Charteris left by the evening express for their new home at Kumara. They will be greatly missed in Inglewood where Mr. Charteris has been doing good work in a quiet and unostentatious manner. WEATHER FOR MARCH. The month of March is one of the driest yet experienced in Inglewood. The total rainfall was 3.02 inches, with six days on which rain fell. The fall for the corresponding month of last year was 6.02 inches on fourteen days, while the average fall for March is 6.22 inches. The wettest March yet experienced in Inglewood since the rain gauge has been installed was that of 1922, when 13.2 inches fell.
