The disappearance of the London actress, Betty Fairfax, from Nice after I winning £4OOO at the casino developed into an intriguing chase round Southern Europe. It was at first thought that she was a victim of foul play, as she was ! carrying her winnings. Then she was ' recognised at the San Remo Casino, I where she was again gambling heavily. ! The casino authorities confirm this and say she won between £GOO and £7OO. She again disappeared and was traced to ! Bordighcra, whereupon she once more disappeared. The police believe that she has gone to London. Her husband, who has been* pursuing will-o’-the-wisp rumours, is now missing. There is a strong theory that the actress has developed the gambling fever and is following a mysterious gambler whose play she copied at the casino when she had her first big win.
