MAN KILLER BY TRAM-CAR
WIDOW RELEASED FROM GAOL MINISTER OF JUSTICE’S RULING. SEQUEL TO SHOPLIFTING CASE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. An inquest was opened by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., to-day, into the death of Thomas Gannon, aged 50, a resident of Point' Chevalier, who received fatal injuries when he was struck by a skirt from a city shop on Friday evening. The inquest was adjourned. The sentence of 21 days’ imprisonment, which was imposed on Rebecca Gannon, wife of the deceased, in the Police Court on Saturday morning will not now be served, the Minister of Justice, Sir Thomas Sidey, having approved her release on the application of Mr. Hunt, who imposed the sentence and opened the inquest. Mrs. Gannon was convicted of the theft of a frock and skirt from city shop on Friday evening.
