LEVIES UPON IMPORTATIONS OVER £8,500 INCREASE SHOWN. BEER AND PETROL TAX FIGURES. After a steady decline from the year 1926 the Customs duties collected at the port of New Plymouth during the past financial year show a very substantial increase over the previous financial year.. In the I*2 months just ended £105,757 2s 3d has been collected, as compared with £97,249 5s lOd for the financial year March, 1928, to March, 1929.

November was the busiest month,- the duties totalling £11,695 Ils 3d, an increase of over £3OOO for the same month in 1928. February was the lowest month, when tho duties reached only £5BBB 15s 7d. In May* only £6313 18s 6d was collected. One month in the previous year, September, with £5787 18s 3d was lower than the lowest month last year. In five months last financial year decreases I were shown when compared with the corresponding months in the previous financial year. Details are: —

Beer Duty. The beer duties for the month show a decrease of £6 17s 4d on March, 1929. Tho figures are:—
