NORTH TARANAKI SCHOOLS
FOOTBALL AND CRICKET GAMES.
A meeting of the teachers, convened by Mr. Bicheno, was held in the Urenui school on Saturday for the purpose of organising school games for the approaching football season. Representatives from nearly all ©the schools in the district were present as follows: Mimi, Miss Schieb; Okok,e; Mrs. Fitzgerald; Uruti, Mr. Short; -Muskere, Mr. Fairbrother; Pukcaruhe, Mr. Brightwell; Urenui, Miss Elliot and Mr, Bicheno.
It was unanimously decided to carry out a series of fixtures similar to that of 1929—a seven-a-side football tournament and a basket ball tournament for the girls. So that the’ teams may be fairly evenly matched the smaller schools were combined as follow: Motunui and Waiau, Mimi and. Pukearuhe, Uruti, Muskers and Mt. Messenger, Kaipikari to combine with either Mimi or Uruti, whichever proves the weaker in basket ball. For football and basket ball Urenui and Okoke each supply a full team. The* following fixtures were drawn: —
First Round.
May 3.—Urenui v. Mimi Combined, _at Mimi; Motunui Combined v. Okoke, at Okoke; Uruti Combined a bye.
Second Round.
June T. —Urenui v. Okoke, at Okoke (if possible); Mimi Combined y. Uruti i Combined, at Mimi; Motunui a bye. Further rounds are to be arranged, later so that each team meets all -the opposing teams in ■ turn. Afterwards it is intended to ask Mr. GOo. Loveridge to act as selector for a district team to play one or more outside matches, also, if possible, against a district team from the Tongaporutu-Mokau district.
