BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

NORTHERS DIVISION SINGLES. The following players took part yesterday in the matches to decide • the singles bowling championship in the northern division: A K. Smart (New Plymouth), A. Martin (Fitzroy), J. Lobb (West End), H. V. S. Griffiths (Vogeltown), 11. Harvey (Paritutu), and A. Goodwin (Fire Brigade). Play was on the Fitzroy green and. the weather was misty. The green was sticky thofigh very true. The competition, under the charge of Mr. E. T. Petty, is on the two-life system and will be concluded to-day, starting at 2 p.m. The games in the first round were all very close, and in the second round Smart and Goodwin had a keen tussle, but Lobb had an easy win over Griffiths and Martin also won his game with Harvey by a comfortable margin. There was a larger discrepancy between the scores of the players in the third round, but the only game in the fourth round was a keen tussle. Detailed results are:— First Round. Griffiths 16 v. Goodwin 15. Smart 21 v. Martin 20. Lobb 17 v. Harvey 15. Second Round. Smart 16 v. Goodwin 12. Lobb 20 v. Griffiths 12, Martin 26 v. Harvey 8. Third Round. Martin 15 v. Griffiths 8. Lobb 17 v. Smart 11. Fourth Round. Martin 17 v. Lobb 15. Smart a bye. i The draw for the fifth round, each player with one life, is:— Martin v. Smart. Lobb a bye.
