MATAPU FLOWER SHOW

MISS WILLIS WINS ROSE BOWL I LARGE NUMBER OF ENTRIES. TIE FOR WILKINSON CUP. The fourth annual district flower show was held at Matapu yesterday. Over 900 entries were received, all classes being strongly, represented/. The display of flowers was excellent, and many individual blooms attained a high standard. The exhibit of lilium auratum formed a striking feature, many of the specimens being extremely large and well formed, .. The decorative work was 1 tastefully executed, and made a bright section of the show. The vegetable classes showed good quality and formed an interesting exhibit, the products being indicative of the quality of Matapu land. Many splendid potatoes were arranged on the tables; The. show was officially opened by Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., who congratulated the exhibitors on the excellent show of flowers and vegetables. . Last .year the show was a good one, but this was a 1 better one, he said. He referred to the large attendance of children, who would learn much from the display. People should cultivate the spirit of making fine gardens around their homes. Special trophies were :■ — Silver rose bowl, presented by Bennett and Sutton, for most points in cut blooms: Miss D.
