PRESIDENT APPOINTS LEADER. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 8.5 p.m. Washington, Feb. 6. President Hoover announced to-day that “At my urgent request” MajorGeneral Crosby, of the United States Army, beginning from March 1, will assume command of the police and allied services in the district of Columbia “as guarantee to official and unofficial residents and to the nation at large that the capitol of the nation will bo free of organised crime.”
