WAS A PROMISE MADE

TEACHERS AND MINISTER DIFFER. By Telegraph—Tress Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, February 4. The Minister of Education, Mr. D. H. Drummond, declines any further official communication with the State Public School Teachers’ Federation owing to the teachers’ president, Mr. McGuinness, accusing the Government of repudiating its promise to make the teachers’ award retrospective to 1927. The Minister declares that no such promise wa made, and refuses to recognise the federation until it “appoints as its officers men who may be expected to confine themselves to fair dealing and truthful statements.” Mr. McGuinness maintains that the promise was made, and will not retract the accusation.
