HEAVY DAMAGE ALREADY CAUSED By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Melbourne, Feb. 4. . A forest fire in the Snowy River district, near Orbost, has assumed alarming proportions. It crossed the river and destroyed stock, railway sleepers and also a large area of grass. Serious bush fires also threaten grass in the Mount Wellington district. A farmer named Hayward went out to fight a bush blaze in the Black ranges near Stawell and when he returned he found his six-roomed house burned. It was believed to be due to beeswax, left melting on the stove, boiling over.
