The Cup. field would grace any metropolitan gathering. * « . .: « « Pegaway is Auckland’s champion middle-distance galloper. «• . * #...'.# Bright Glow is fancied amongst the. Taranaki representatives engaged. She has yet to find a mile and a half, but she, ran a, great race in the Wellington Cup. • •• ■ . ' . * . * • _ * # • Vertigern has found this journey with-in-his compass, and is just about back to form. <-• r-y < • ' • ’ ■ Corinax should never.have been beaten in his. latest engagement, the Takapuna Cup. ' . - * , ; .'V , « In the Shade won a . Wellington Han-" dicap and. finished second in . the, New Zealand Cup —but since? . ■ -■ • # * . * * .' >• Piuthair, a great little mare', is in form now and won this race-three .years ago. . • ' '•? .. The veteran Ypma can never be totally disregarded. He beat a weak field last year. * .# # Shrewd stays on fairly well, but has not quite lived-up to his promise of the. spring,. .. ’ ■ I, .. • .. * ..Lucy,. Rose is another light-weighter who should find the distance on this course.- ■ . .. « .., /« * • • ® The rest, will not cut much ice, save The Hawk, who ran second in the-Wel-lington'Cup. «■ * . # * It is doubtful if Taranaki’ has ever seen such a brilliant collection of sprinters. ’ #*' * ♦ Paganelli is no stranger to New Plymouth. Benzora has not shown his best for some time, but there is no doubt of his ability. # # # * Lady Quex won at Takapuna last week, and is Taranaki’s favourite —she likes her home track. # She won this race last year, but did not have much to beat. This company is tough! « 9 ■■ W • Eaglet does not appear to have recovered from her gruelling spring camP as ° n ' ° \ « w « « Leitrim seems- to be well looked after when one considers his recent promotion from hacks. «#* . * Ridgcmount ran second to Cimabue recently, and on this turning track he should beat Cimabue. «„* « « The Juvenile Handicap should be more in Valpre’s line. « # * • Melissa arid Gold Dawn are a likely pair on the minimum; but they will need to move. # .. * * • Fully half of the acceptors in each race seem to hold rosy prospects. *1 * * * The minor races are also “hard” and promise wide speculation. 9 » f « Perhaps the track work will elucidate the problem —it helped last year. * * • # H.
