The omission of Ryder frdm the Australian team has caused amazement in Victoria as well as in New South Wales. He is described by the Melbourne Press as the best fighter in the last tests. _ “Ryder’s knowledge of the English wickets, his bowling, his leadership andlong experience of cricket have gone for°nought,” says the Melbourne Herald. “His omission is more incomprehensible when it is recalled he was actually one of the selectors of the team. His co-sclectors accepted a heavy responsibility in rejecting him.” Mr. R, Oxlade, chairman of the Board of Control, broadcast the personnel of the team this afternoon and wished it success. He described it as a really good one. The Board of Control is greatly annoyed at the premature disclosure of the team yesterday, and has decided to ask each selector by letter whether he was guilty of “this grave error?’ Popular feeling in Sydney is that the team is a good one. There are several all-rounders, and extra bowling strength is expected as the bowlers Fairfax,. Wall and Hornibrook are likely to be suited by the English conditions.
