FIRE DAMAGE IN SUB-STATION

OPERATOR’S NARROW ESCAPE. RESTORATION OF FULL SERVICE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Jan. 29. The damage caused by the fire at the Public Works sub-station at Bunnythorpe yesterday is estimated at from £12,000 to £14,000. It is expected that it will take seven mouths to bring the station into operation again, but the full service has been restored through an adjacent sub-station. W. Greig, an operator, dashed from the building, warned by the blue flashes from the instrument board. He was only just clear when the building roared into flames, and the devastation was complete in a few minutes. The Manawatu Power Board’s station is dealing with the emergency and has prevented a prolonged and serious power stoppage.
