THEATRE ROYAL WAITARA. ■' “WHITE SHADOWS IN SOUTH' SEA'S” Thrilling adventure and haunting romance are strongly featured in the new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer .giant sound synchronised production, “White Shadows in the South Seas,” which , will be screened at the Theatre Royal, Waitara, at 2 p.m. and 8.15 p.m. to-day. /The plot is built on the regeneration of a white man who, after having, sunk to the. level of a beachcomber, reasserts himself to avenge a native pearldiver, and as a result of his chivalry is lured oh board a plague ship, lashed to the wheel and set adrift. The ship wrecks on the reef of a tropical island paradise where, after a series of. thrilling and romantic adventures, he is adopted by a native tribe and wins the love of the chief’s daughter. What happens when pearls are discovered on the. island, his fight between greed and a desire for civilisation, and . his love for the native girl, affords a story of intense dramatic appeal. Monte Blue plays -the role of the white man. Opposite him is Raquel Torres, one ’of the new sensational dramatic finds oi the season. A large group of native islanders supply an authentic atmosphere, and soine marvellous under-water scenes. The company, under the direction of W. S. Van Dyke, spent five- months in filming this epic production on the island of Tahiti. A programme of talkie shorts will also be shown. “MADAME X” ON TUESDAY. . The all-talking picture’s greatest triumph, “Madame X,” featuring Lewis Stone and Ruth Chatterton, will be screened at the Theatre Royal next Tuesday and Wednesday.
