GREATER TRADE AT PORT

COASTAL AND OVERSEAS

INCREASE OF TONNAGE HANDLED

DECLINE SHOWN TN EXPORTS.

The total of exports and imports, coastal and overseas, handled at the port of New Plymouth during the past vear amounted to 199,234 tons, an increase of 5284 tons over 1927, the previous record year. In 1928 the amount handled amounted to 192,500 tons.

There has been a steady decline in exports over the past three years due not to a decrease in dairy produce exports, but to a decline in other exports, chiefly meat. The past year’s exports of 43,841 tons are less by 3607 tons than the exports in 1928. Although the imports for the whole of last year are not complete, the records for the first 11 months of 1929 are 1041 tons higher than the imports for the whole of 1928. .- The amount in tons of exports and imports, coastal and overseas, at the port, are given for the past five years in the following table: —
