PALESTINE’S UNEMPLOYED
AN IMPROVING SITUATION.
BUILDING TRADE SLACKNESS.
British Wireless.
Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Jan. I. The Colonial Office issues a statement showing a satisfactory reduction of unemployed in Palestine. During the month of October unemployment among both Jews and Arabs decreased, notwithstanding the fact that nearly 800 working men and women entered the country. At the end of the month it was estimated that there were 700 Jews without employment, most of whom claim to belong to the building trade. About half of this number stated that they had lost their employment in consequence of the recent disturbances. The total number of Arabs unemployed at the end of October was estimated to be 1000, of whom more than one-third belonged to the building trades. In October,. 1928,, the figures were 1400 and 2500 for Jewish and nonJewish unemployed respectively.
