By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.
Washington, Dec. 31.
The Department of Commerce reports record-breaking foreign trade figures for the year, even surpassing the shipments during and immediately after the war. Both exports and imports were well in excess of the preceding year, and the United States closes 1929 with a favourable trade balance, of nearly one thousand million dollar's. The gain in the export ■ trade, however, was confined to the first four months of the year, after which it showed an actual decrease as compared with 1928.
