HOLIDAY CRICKET

XVESTERN PARK CLUB MATCH. . SENIORS DEFEAT B GRADE. A very enjoyable cricket match was played at Pukekura, Park on Saturday between the Western Park senior team and the senior B team. The senior B team batted first, and compiled 85 runs, the seniors replying with 82 runs. On the second visit to the wickets the senior B team scored 44 runs for nine wickets and declared at 6.30 p.m. in the hope that the senior team would make the requisite number of runs (46) and thereby not have their morale affected. The defeat of Poverty Bay by Manawatu on Saturday has enabled tho, Taranaki association to proceed with the finalisation of arrangements for the playing of the challenge match against Manawatu commencing on New Years Day. Though one or two players are not quite certain, it seems that the only member of the team originally selected who is definitely not available is R. Eden (Okaiawa). It is probable that the team which will take the fiell at Palmerston North will be one of the strongest that has ever left the province, and with ordinary luck it should give a good account of itself, t Although two cars have been secured for the transport jaf the team to Palmerston, some difficulty is being experienced in obtaining a third, but it is hoped that some other keen cricketer can be found who will assist in this matter. . Considerable interest is being taken by both public and players in Taranaki s effort to regain the cup. C. N. Kingstone, for example, will probably make & special trip from Auckland, where he is at present spending a holiday, for thematch, and Jack Cheevers, of Hawera, is being recalled from Wellington. The team is thoroughly representative of the province, New Plymouth, Tarurutangi, Hawera and possibly Kaponga being all represented amongst the players. Arrangements are being made for the players to leave by car early to-morrow afternoon. AUCKLAND TOURING TEAM. MATCH AGAINST SOUTHLAND. Invercargill, Last Night.
