Officials expressed confidence that no situation had arisen to cause friction between the two countries, although it was admitted that the gaols, especially in the border towns, were crowded with persons awaiting deportation. The Justice Department, however, has received ao information concerning the alleged illtreatment of prisoners. The Immigration Commissioner, Mr. Husband, stated: “I do not know of any British subjects who have been detained, except for violation of the immigration laws. Unfortunately we cannot help that.”
