Ono is Gladys Watkins, of Wellington, who also is the- only New Zealander. She is playing Christmas carols on the 23 bells for the Wellington War Memorial carillon in Hyde Park. It is hoped io have the complete range of 50 bells ready by January I for a try-out in Hyde Park, before shipment 1 vVellington. Miss Watkins, who has been studying for. a year at the famous Carillon School al Alalines, Belgium, will be carilloner when the memorial is erected in Wellington. •Miss Watkins’ preliminary recital received a warm ovation from the large crowds of Christmas shoppers last evening.
