NORFOLK ROAD
PRIZE GIVING CEREMONIES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Tho break-up and prize-giving ceremonies were held in the Norfolk Road school on Friday evening in the presence of a large number of parents, children and others. A very much appreciated concert programme was arranged by Mr. W. J. Smith as follows: Violin solo, Mrs. D. McAlister; songs, Mrs. McKeen; Miss G. Beadle and Mr. W. J. Smith; elocution, Mrs. Bray broke; dances, Miss J. Mcßae and D. Alleman; duets, Mrs. McKcen and W. J. Smith. Miss R. N'cholls played the accompaniments. Before presenting the prizes Mr. J. Reeve, chairman of the school committee, on behalf of those present thanked the concert party for their enjoyable programme.
The prize list was: Standard VI, Gerald Adlington 1, Nyla Walker 2, Leslie Huzzard 3; standard V, Don Walker 1, Ashley Wright 2, Lex Rust 3; standard IV, William Brown 1, Flossie Voitreleovsky 2, Brian Fabish 3; standard 111, Ada l4jurenoo 1, Shirley Reardon 2, Daphne Roycroft 3; standard 11, Doris Aubrey 1, Roy O'Sullivan, 2, Roy Huzziff 3; standard I, Agnes Surrey 1, Dawn Reeve 2, June Laurence 3; primer HL, Gladys Acklander 1, Valerie Voitrekovsky 2, Betty Egarr 3; specials, Myrtle Cossey (100 marks) 1, Ruby Cossey (96 marks) 2, Mavis Reeve (94 marks) 3, Flossie Voitrekovsky (85 marks) 4. Sewing prizes were: Standards V and VI, Nita Porter, Ona Laurence; standards 111 and VI, Ivy Gichard; standards I and If, Ruby Cossey; Primers, Cissie Lister.
In addition to tho usual prize-giving, all the pupils of the school received presents. After supper had been dispensed by a committee of ladies, dancing was imluged in, Laurence’s orchestra providing the music and Mr. IV. J. Burne acting as master of ceremonies. For tho third year in succession all the pupils who sat for the proficiency examination were successful. Keen interest has been taken in the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs, also in swimming, for which 20 certificates for distances from 50 to 880 yards have, been awarded. Mr. IL Trimble has presented Darcy Roycroft with a certificate won in the calf-rearing competition. A very creditable concert arranged by the children themselves: was rendered on Thursday, and was mtich appreciated by the parents present. . The children of the town are looking forward to the arrival of-Father. Christmas on Tuesday afternoon at 2 pan. PERSONAL. Mr. and Air.?. H. Winter and family have left on a visit to Christchurch. Mr. L. G. Kohn, of the staff of Newton King, Ltd., left on a visit to the South Island. . Mr. A. Darlow is spending his Christmas vacation with his parents in Auckland, while Mrs. Darlow and family are spending a few weeks in Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. Baxter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong and family and Mr. and Mrs. Hasclden and family have all taken cottages at Ngamotu for the holidays, while Mr. and Mrs. Kirby and family and Mr. and Mrs. Penn and family have taken cottages at tho Waitar.-. seaside. Miss Tomlinson, .of Hythe, England, is Spending a few months with Miss E. Brown, Inglewood, Dr. and Mrs. Faris and family are spading the holidays at their beach cottage, Fitzroy. . Miss Todd, Masterton, is staying with her sister, Mrs. J. ’Wi Winfield. Tho Rev. J. N. /Thompson, vicar of Inglewood, is taking all tho St. Andrews Sunday school children into camp for a week on Mr. V. '.'Harkness’ farm at Tariki.
