GENERAL ITEMS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) At the monthly meeting of the Urenui school committee the following report was submitted by Mr. L. Bicheno, headmaster:—"The roll is now 72 and the average attendance 66. Since last meeting our garden plot hag been sown in potatoes and they give promise of yielding a very successful experiment in the amount of manure that can be profitably used commercially for this particular type of crop. Mr. Ridling visited the school recently and seemed pleased with the garden plots and the general trimming of hedges and trees. During the greater part- of the month the Education Board’s painters have been busy painting the school, school residence and outbuildings. The general surroundings aS well as the interior of the school are vastly improved .as the result of their work. It is hoped that every effort will be made to maintain the neat and tidy appearance. We have introduced a variety of bright and attractive pictures. "The final term examinations have taken place, and upon its results the promotions will be made. The calfjudging has taken place and it is understood that one of the calves on the list has qualified for further judging.” HERD TESTING. The Urn Li herd testing group, which embraces a number of herds in the Pukearuhe and Mimi districts, again maintains pride of place for the November period in the Taranaki Herd Testing Association’s averages. The number of "cows tested was 355, averaging 43.291 b butterfat/ the best herd of 35 cows averaging 551 b and the lowest: herd of 26 cows averaging 2L5lb butter-’ fat. In the Tikorangi group, including Qnaero, Urenui, Waitortoi and Mimiherds, the 1353 cows tested averaged 37.201 b butterfat', the best herd of 32 cows averaging 461 b fat and the lowest herd consisting of 57 cows averaging 32.31 b butterfat. The highest individual yield in the Tikorangi group was 721 b fat from a cow in a W’aitoitoi herd.

PERSONAL. Mrs. M. Jones, Onaero, spent a short holiday in Waitara recently as the guest of Mrs. J. Purdie. Mrs.* Athol Vaughan has returned home after spending a fortnight’s holiday in Wellington. Miss V. Schicb, sole teacher of the Mimi school, is spending the summer vacation in the South Island. Mr. and Mrs. J. Guild have taken up their residence 1 in New Plymouth, Mr. Guild having accepted an appointment on the staff of the Mangorei Dairy Company. , The Rev. Carron, Presbyterian Maori missioner, is a visitor to Urenui. He has conducted services in the Mimi school. ." Miss Hazel Phillips, who has concluded her studies at the Teachers’ Training College, Dunedin, is visiting her parents, i Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Phillips, Mimi. Mr. and Mrs. James Allen and family, Stratford, have taken up their residence in Urenui. Miss Mavis Elliot, who is attending the Wanganui College, is spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. Elliot, Onaero. Mr. D. Jillett, sole teacher of the Kaipikari school, is spending a camping holiday on the Urenui beach as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. R. Fitzgerald. Sixth standard proficiency certificates have been awarded to Jock and George Sulzberger, Mimi school, and R. E. Jamieson, Pukearuhe. Visitors to the Urenui beach continue to arrive daily and are endeavouring in spite of the adverse weather conditions to erect camps with a view .to spending the holiday season under canvas. Miss L.
