DRUNKEN MAN GOES TO SEA
STRANGE CASE AT STONEHAVEN. By Telegraph—Press 'Assn.—Copyright. London, Dec. 23. At Stonehaven, a fisherman, named George Knowles, became drunk and put to sea in a small boat, braving a fierce gale. Spectators, convinced that he would lose his life, called out a lifeboat which went to his rescue. Knowles refused assistance and returned safely to harbour unaided. He was thereupon charged that, while in a state of intoxication, he proceeded to sea in a storm and by his reckless conduct endangered his life, causing such alarm that a lifeboat was called out, and that he committed a breach of the peace. Knowles pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fortnight’s imprisonment without tho option of a fine.
