The headmaster (Mr. T. A. Nicholl) reported, inter alia, that no serious epidemics had interfered with attendance, though there had been a fair amount of sickness in the lower standards. The girls had won one section of the senior basketball competition and tied with another school for th© Deare Shield, which represented the basketball ehampionship of the Taranaki primary schools. Games were regarded as making for the pupils’ physical welfare, and thanks were due to parents for the assistance given in providing equipment. The swimming pool opened last February had been made possible by the efforts of the school committee and the generous support of the public. It had proved a great benefit, swimming being now part of the curriculum. During last summer 25 swimming certificates were gained by the pupils. Thanks were due to the committee and to the staff for their loyal co-operation during the year. It was his desire to become acquainted with the parents of all the children attending the' school, as such acquaintance was of assistance to both pupils and teachers.
The dux> of the school for the year was Phyllis McCabe, said Mr. Healey in supplementing the headmaster’s remarks. He was glad the committee’s efforts had been of assistance to the school. Funds were limited but they did their best. He was sorry they were losing the services of Mr. Ford and Miss Pepper, who had done good work for the school during the past 12 months and were now entering a training college.
