PIRATES IN CHINA SEA
BRITISH REPRESENTATIONS. INSTRUCTIONS TO AMBASSADOR. British Wireless. Rugby, Dec. 16. Mr. Arthur Henderson, Foreign Secretary, was asked in the House of Commons whether he had made any representations to the Chinese Government regarding the increase of piracy along the Chinese coast. He replied that representations had been repeatedly madi in recent years and the British Minister had instructions to keep the matter before the Chinese Government with a view to its taking effective suppressive measures. ' So far as his information went there had been no deterioration in the situation during recent months. Trie problem of securing the safety of British commerce was one that was constantly kept in view. It should have been noticed that in the recent case of piracy upon the steamer Hacking two British warships li?' 1 been instrumental in saving the vessel.
