PROTEST TO COMMONWEALTH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At a meeting of the Cricket Council this evening it was reported that the profits on the games played in Australia by the M.C.C. team were: West Australia £3lO, South Australia £390, New South Wales £2OOO. The Commonwealth Taxation Department, however, had decided to charge the council income tax at the rate of 4s. in the £1 on the New South Wales game, notwithstanding that the amusement tax had been paid. After a discussion it was agreed to forward an appeal against the apparently unfair charge levied by the Commonwealth Taxation Department.
