DON’TS FOR CLIMBERS.
HOW TO AVOID MISHAPS. Mount Egmont is climbed by hundreds of people during the summer, with comparative ease, and with little danger; arid • thus people ar© led to treat the dangers of "mountaineering with contempt, but Egmont in winter is much more formidable, and must be treated with respect. Unfortunately people will not realise the difference in.climbirig conditions, with the result that there have’been several fatalities which would, not have happened had ordinary care been taken. The following few “don’ts” io intending climbers are given by an experienced mountaineer:—
Dtm’t call Mount Egmont a hill arid think a walk to -the summit is a “before breakfast stroll.” . • ...
Don’t climb unless properly equipped with suitable clothing and strong boots. Don’t string out if a large party; always keep close together. Remember the weakest is the one who should set-the pace. Don’t break up a party and leave anybody to wander back alone if above defined tracks.
